About Masjid.Life

What is Masjid.Life?

Masjid.Life Foundation is a registered NGO (Societies Act XXI of 1860, Certificate No. S-14751/2026) providing interest-free loans and other support to marginalized poor and distressed people of all religions across Bangladesh. It's mosque-based and Friday-based — branches operate inside mosques, run by local volunteer teams.

Why mosques specifically?

Bangladesh has mosques in nearly every village, sometimes five or six in one. Using them divides the program into small, hyper-local units, so the management team and borrowers all know each other well, which makes oversight easy. Almost everyone in the area is already at the mosque at a fixed time every Friday, so distributing loans publicly right after Jumu'ah leaves very little room for corruption.

Is Masjid.Life open to non-Muslims?

Yes. No applicant may be turned away because of their religion — that's treated as a humanitarian and Islamic obligation, not optional charity. Loans to non-Muslim families are delivered to their homes rather than at the mosque, out of consideration.

How do I verify someone claiming to represent Masjid.Life?

Check their name, photo, and title against the official website before trusting them. Masjid.Life's growing reach means impersonation is a real risk — always verify independently.

How the loans work

What is Qard Hasan?

The Qur'anic "goodly loan" — interest-free, with no fees of any kind. A borrower repays exactly what they received, nothing more.

Are there really no fees?

None. No interest, processing fee, service charge, application fee, SMS charge, penalty, security deposit, or advance deduction. Borrowers repay exactly what they borrowed, in small installments.

How much can someone borrow?

General loans cap around ৳20,000. A new branch actually starts every borrower at a ৳5,000 software-enforced limit, raising it gradually as the branch proves reliable. Reliable repayers become eligible for double the loan next round (fund permitting); a default halves the limit.

What can the loan be used for?

Small business working capital, buying or repairing a rickshaw/van, a sewing machine, farming inputs, home repairs, a child's education or medical costs, even a daughter's wedding. Productive, income-generating uses are prioritized.

Beyond loans — other services

What other services does Masjid.Life offer besides loans?

Five more, alongside the core interest-free loan: Help for the Disabled, Underprivileged Education, Education Loans, Cow Loans, and Tubewell Setup — each with its own structure below.

How does "Help for the Disabled" work?

This isn't a loan — people unable to work due to disability, with no one to support them, get a verified public profile instead. Interested donors give directly to them through the branch. Masjid.Life doesn't collect funds for this itself.

What is the Underprivileged Education service?

Bright students from poor families who can't afford to continue their studies get a branch-built profile, and Masjid.Life helps find a sponsor — often funded through Zakat.

How is the Education Loan different?

It's for university students specifically: borrow during your studies, repay after graduating and earning. The lender sends funds directly to the student's account, with Masjid.Life overseeing the process.

How does the Cow Loan work?

Funds are given right after Eid-ul-Adha so a farmer can buy a cow. The cow is sold before the next Eid-ul-Adha — the farmer keeps the profit, and the original loan amount is returned to fund the next cycle.

What is the Tubewell Setup service?

Zakat-funded tubewells for families facing a drinking-water crisis. Each application is reviewed jointly by the branch team, mosque committee, and local community over a video call before approval, which keeps the process free of favoritism.

Are there special branches for specific professions?

Yes — alongside standard mosque branches, Masjid.Life also supports thana-level branches for specific groups, such as low-income imams, muezzins, and madrasa teachers, with a higher loan ceiling of up to ৳1,00,000. A pilot is already running in Feni. Any dedicated group — teachers, doctors, and similar — can apply to start one, though volunteers cover their own incidental costs, since the organization runs at zero cost.

For donors

How is my donation used?

100% goes to branches for interest-free lending. Nothing is spent on salaries, offices, or overhead — those costs don't exist in the first place.

How do I confirm my donation was recorded?

Check the Donors & Lenders list on this site within 24 hours of giving. If your name doesn't appear, your donation hasn't been processed yet — or didn't reach Masjid.Life.

Can I track where my money goes?

Yes. Masjid.Life runs open-book software — every donor, loan, and repayment is published live. You can trace your donation to the exact branch and see who it helped.

Can I donate without my name being shown publicly?

Yes — you can list a deceased relative's name or a pseudonym instead of your own if you'd rather not appear by name.

For branches & borrowers

How does a mosque open a branch?

A local team of 7-10 volunteers (a leader, a treasurer, and members) forms and applies via the "Apply Online" button on this site. It costs nothing to open — Masjid.Life provides full support for free.

What is the Friday process?

Loan decisions, disbursement, and installment collection all happen at the mosque after Jumu'ah prayer — never door-to-door at a borrower's home, which keeps the process public and avoids a borrower being wrongly flagged as a defaulter from a delayed posting.

Who decides who gets a loan?

The branch management team, but no loan moves without a signed resolution carrying at least 6 signatures — not even the team leader can override that.

Can a branch charge extra fees or favor certain people?

No. Charging anything beyond the loan itself, under any name, is explicitly banned, as is publicly shaming a late borrower. (Legal action is reserved for actual fraud.)

Why are borrower photos made public?

So the community can immediately flag any fake or ineligible recipient — transparency works as fraud prevention, not just disclosure.

Safety & trust

How do I verify an account before donating?

Only use a bank account, bKash, or Nagad number listed on this website. Never send money based on a number given only by phone, message, or a third party.

I donated, but my name isn't in the donor list — what happened?

That means your money never reached Masjid.Life. Report it immediately via WhatsApp or email so it can be investigated.

How do I report fraud or someone misusing the Masjid.Life name?

Contact founder Kamal Ahmed directly — WhatsApp (+1 919 360 8286) or email (masjid.life.kamal@gmail.com), the same channels listed on the About page.
